Why I Like Freezing Rain.

Freezing rain can be down right dangerous.  That's obvious.  Slippery sidewalks and roadways aren't the ideal.  But it happens so rarely that when it does, it seems special.  Just the right mixture of atmospheric conditions is necessary for the freezing rain.  A little colder in the upper atmosphere and it's snow.  A little colder in the lower atmosphere and it's sleet.  A little warmer and it's rain.

Today's brief period of evening freezing rain reminded me of that.  I feel the same way about hail or record breaking temperatures.  Does anyone else feel that way?  I just like witnessing unique weather and it seems to me that freezing rain is just that.

  1. Reminds me when you and Badger classmates were on your way to Colorado and stopped somewhere along the way to witness a rare cloud formation - something only weather geeks would do. But when you understand how everything needs to be perfect for such an event to occur, it is amazing.
