Library Nerd.

With the combination of not knowing a whole lot of people in Lima, and there not being a whole lot to do while the rest of the town is at work, I've been visitng the library quite often.  I've always gone through reading phases in my life, so I'm no stranger to the dewey decimal system.

Right now I'm weaning off a Jodi Picoult kick and running head first toward a Janet Evanovich series featuring Stephanie Plum, a Jersey girl who is lingerie buyer turned bounty hunter in "the burg."  It's quick, easy, fun reading with hilarious characters with distic personalities.  I've actually laughed out loud while reading!  Thanks to Becky Ringen for lending me the first in the series way back this past winter.  Love them.  I'm on Four to Score right now, making my way to the end as of now...Sizzlin' Sixteen

Anyone have any other suggestions once I blow through this author?

Makeup Secrets.

Maybe someday I'll have someone to do my maekup and hair for me at work.  That would be awesome!  Until then, I'll continue to do it myself in front of a big lighted mirror in the newsroom.  I did learn one beaty tip for helping foundation to stay on longer...primer hiding in an unusual locations.  Anti-chaffing cream...haha.  A product by monastat to put in inner thighs...not a pleasant thought, but it works good under makeup!  It feels sliky almost like talc powder lotion.  I'm a fan and a daily user... :)

What's your makeup tip?

Teacher for a Day.

I remember when Dave Dahl came to Hanover Elementary and talked to us about weather.  Tuesday, I was that visitning meteorologist...funny.  I went to Lima North Middle School to talk to three seventh grade science classes about forecasting and extreme weather and being a meteorologist.

We lucke dout and it was raining when I was there so we talked a lot about the radar and such.  But I have to say...13 years olds are a tough crowd.  They could care less at 9 in the morning who is talking to them, they are bored!  They did a good job at asking questions for the most part.

How much money do you make?
Are you ever wrong?
Haha.
How do you know how to forecast?
What's the biggest thing a tornado can pick up?
How do they name hurricanes?

Nice.  Here's some pics of Laura, the teacher...!

Facebook Photo Shoot.

So yes, it was my idea to have a FB photo shoot for our fan page.  And I was also me who wanted us all to dress alike.  And here we are, dressed in blue in front of the station.  Kyle picked out the best three pictures.  Just wanted to show you our team!  Which one is the best?

PS, I'm standing on a landscaping stone to look taller...haha.

Severe Weather.

Yikes!  Lima is smack dab in the middle of a possible severe outbreak this afternoon...Anything is possible tonight, even tornadoes.  To be honest, severe weather really scares me...that's why I like to know all I can about it.  Knowing what's going on beats just relying on city sirens.

I'm really excited for work today.  even though I'm a reporter today, perhaps if there is major severe i will just be able to assist Darren Maier (Cheif Meteorologist) with weather stuff.  The idea is that he would be on camera and I would be running all the graphics systems for him, swithcing it up as necessary between radar, storm reports, and warning graphics.

Here's a look at where the Storm Prediction Center is forecasting the worst of it...Lima, right in the middle of that moderate circle.  Moderate today means a 5% chance of tornadoes, 30% chance of 1" hail or larger and 45% chance of damaging winds.  This is an exciting day in the WLIO forecast center.

Live Shots.

I am getting less nervous for live shots.  It's nerve wracking because I'm listening to tons of different cues in my ear piece and have to decipher which ones are for me!  Here's what I am supposed to hear...

1 Minute Remote...
30 Seconds Remote...
Standby Remote...
Ready Cue...
Cue Laura!

most of the time, things go smoothly.  Last night was local election night so I had two live shots, one at five and then a live interview at 6.  The director calling the shots at five had such a muffled voice that I didn't hear my cues...that left me looking like a complete idiot on camera foir a few seconds before I decided jsut to keep talking.  She sounded like Charlie Brown's mom.  It was just from the tone of her voice that I figured something was supposed to be happening, so I might as well (mizzle) start talking!  Oh well...over it!

Then at 6, I was all set up standing next to my interview, the Director of the Allen County Board of Elections, and I heard all teh cues perfectly.  (This time form a different director.)  Right when I started talking a ballot machine behind me started beeping and my interview walked away!  The camera man was freaking out, which made me feel like freaking out!  I jsut started talking really slow in hopes that the interviewee would return, and he did...just in time.  Whew!  Eventful couple of hours last night...

Here's some shots of me and my camera man, Phil, and our truck from our election night coverage...

Midnight Cravings.

I am loving my weather girl schedule...no alarms to wake up to!  I get to basically sleep in every morning since i don't start until 2pm on weekdays and 3:30pm on the weekends.  I've always been a late to bed, late to rise kinda girl, so that works out for me perfect!  There's just one problem with this schedule...when i get home from work late at night I'm starving!!  I hate eating everynight at 11 or midnight, but I can't help it.  I can't go to bed with a rumbly tummy!

Last night I dabbled in princess Spaghetti O's.  It took me nearly the enitre bowl to figure out what the shapres were...  I came up wtih Cinderella's head, a glass slipper, a crown, a castle and some that I had no idea what they were...  I turned it every which way and couldn't decipher it.  According to this picture, I missed wuite a few...  I never would have guessed the Belle one!

I am going to have to think up a good late night snack that doesn't make me feel guilty!

Good Tables and Bad Tables.

So...this looks like a nice table, huh?
Well, turns out it's not.  I ordered it for our dining room.  my BF, Kubes was nice enough to put it together with his high quality construction skills when he was in town, but even so, it broke when I was sitting on it and I found myself on the floor.  So I figure I will order a new set, take one chair out and return the broken one.  By the time the new set came by FedEx, all four chairs had broken!!  Yikes!  What a piece...
This is the new table I ordered instead...made of metal this time.  We'll see if it can hold up to the torture that Whit and I put it through...card games and daquiri nights.  :)
