Because Darren has been on vacay to Florida for thsi week, I have been filling in for him each night for the weather. I got this message on my facebook page from Jessica Dill the other day...she anchors the morning show and does some reporting during the later morning hours. Here's what she wrote me:
"Ok so not once, but twice today... People came up to me and said "you're doing a great job filling in for Darren for weather, welcome to Lima!" ....
So I guess I look like you! I'll take it as a compliment :)"
Haha, they can't tell us apart! We'll see what happens when I put some guest appearances in for the morning show when Kyle gets married this summer. Maybe then people will understand we are two different girls! Here's her pic...think we look alike? I can see it i guess...I'm def taking it as a compliment too, Jess!

Jay & Em.
Very excited...a little road trip is planned for a few of us WLIO'ers to head to Detroit September 2nd for a Jay-Z/Eminem concert. The concert is part of a four night event with two concerts in Detroit, Jay opening for Em and then two nightsat Yankee stadium in NYC with Eminem opening for Jay.
And even better, September 2nd is Kubes' birthday so, the loving gf that I am, got him a ticket as well. We just have to figure out some minor logistics issues...like how is Kubes getting from Mpls to Detroit and back? But that can and will be resolved. Yay!
Who's all going? Andy & Kristi, Brandon & Whit and me & Kubes. Kristi and Whitney have to work the next mornign back in LIma so it's going to be a rough ride back after a late night in Detroit. We're all expecting some great guest appearances. I'm expecially hoping for Rhianna. And I'm still holding out the slightest hope for some Mariah, but her history with Eminem pretty much crushes those dreams.
Our seats are in section 138 along the left field line and the stage is in center field. so we ended up with somegreat seats, thanks to Andy's Fan Club membership that got us pre-sale tix...

Breaking In.
When there is severe weather in the area, it's a tough decision to decide whether or not to break into local programming to alert the public of any dangerous weather. Here at WLIO we cut in for two main reasons... One is if the storms headed our way have a history of producing large amounts of damage. The second is if there are tornado warnings. Tornadoes aren't something to mess with. Thankfully the three tornadoes we have had this year in and around Lima have been low impact ones. All rated EF-0's.
If we break in, it's because we think there is imminent danger to the public. Sometimes people watching the interrupted shows aren't too happy with us. In the most recent case, Darren and I stayed on for a little under an hour with tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms passing through the viewing area. Our facebook page showed two sides of the story. One group of followers was upset scheduled shows were not seen, while others realized sometimes TV needs to be sacraficed for the safety of the public, even if the severe weather isn't happening over your neighborhood. Here's some of the comments from our page...
"Seriously... u had to breakin to SYTYCD? U couldn't wait 4 more minutes until the news."
"Maybe there are some who wouldn't mind be blowen away while watching their favorite TV show. When the weather news broke in - it gave us time to check on family. A warning is just that - a warning to have time to take action if need to. Keep up with the good job. "
"Way to go you have some one go on national Tv from this area and you have to screw that up... good job..... way to support your community.. i am really glad that 3 minutes made a huge Difference...."
"I agree....it is RIDICULOUS that people are upset over a stupid television show being interrupted....It shows a lack of intelligence and common sense....It is an embarrassment to our Community to have such moronic individuals who cannot understand the importance of early warnings and continued updates....Until you have lived through a Tornado....I would suggest it wise not to show your ignorance....3 minutes can make a big difference in a life or death situation...."

Hmm, thanks.
So, I've been told this before but I have no idea what to make of it...should I take it as a compliment or some negative criticism.
I was at a Jewish Temple tonight for a final shabat and farewell dinner for a Rabbi moving to a Fort Wayne Congregation and one man came up to me and said..."You look much better in person." I smiled and just said thank you. Yes, Sir...thank you for telling me I look like crap on air. Haha. I'm sure it wasn't meant that way...right?

Beauty Flashback.
First Target got Mossimo and now Wal-Mart has Hard Candy Cosmetics! Remember the candy colored nail polish that you had to buy at Dayton's? My fav was a creamy plae yellow nail polish. Now it's at Wal-Mart! I was there buying plastic hangers and a spray bottle and ran across the new display. It's still more expensive than the typical Maybelline and Cover Girl, but I think I might have to dabble in at least some lip gloss next time I need to visit the makeup counter... :)

Garden!
Thanks so much to Kristi for helping me get my garden all planted. Yay! Start to finish, about three hours and some good quality tanning time. Love it. The diagram I pre-planned proved very useful and the garden is full to the brim. I might have to do some thinning but we'll see. Hope everything makes it...I'm praying for some quality rain that's forecasted for the next couple days. Either that or Janet Evanovich and I are going to buy a sprinkler and spend some more sunshine hours by the garden.
There are 4 plots total in this community garden. The leader, Cassie, is pretty serious with those raised beds...maybe next year...
Here's some pics...
PS, the planting was followed by a SERIOUS marathon of Weeds, Season 3. Love that show.

Finally a Garden Plot.
So I have been waiting since MARCH to get my community garden plot. I finally found out which one is mine so I rushed out today to buy the plants that I didn't start on my own, and will be off to my planting tomorrow afternoon. It's a 10'x23' plot at a Northpark Church not far from my house. I'm hoping to get some segments about organic gardening on the news for slow days and weekends and such so I'm super excited! I have it all planned out in 6 sections, two large ones and 4 small ones. I'm using companion planting to cut down on the need for herbicides and pesticides. here's the site i used to find the best possible combo of plants: http://www.ghorganics.com/
My sections are:
1-beans, cucumbers, radish, spinach2-tomatoes, peppers, herbs, petunias
3-watermelon, zucchini
4-peas, potatoes, marigolds
5-onions, lettuce, carrots
6-cabbage, dill, petunias
Here's a pic of what I all have to plant tomorrow...busy afternoon!
Home to Mpls.

Just got back from a trip home to Mpls for my sissy's wedding reception and it was GREAT to see everyone and the city...I'll post some wedding pics here soon. Here's some good pics of peeps I had fun with...Ana...none of me and you?? :(
